Going To Mongolia

16 Oct 2009, by Brian in Uncategorized

I have mentioned in previous posts about our interest in traveling to Mongolia next. Well, we are excited to announce that we now have a plan to get there. Next summer we are going on the Mongol Rally!

The Mongol Rally is a 10,000 mile adventure from London to Ulaan Baatar in a tiny car (the rules call for an engine no larger than 1.2 liters) with the goal of raising money for charity.  This is pretty much everything we were looking for in a trip.  Adventure. A way to highlight sustainable travel.  Raising money for charity.

We have been waiting to announce this plan because we wanted to be sure we could register, and then started putting together a website and fund raising plan.

Our 3,800 mile round trip loop through the American west was sort of a warm up (albeit on excellent roads we are not likely to encounter on the rally)… and we actually registered at 6am from Salt Lake City on the last day of that trip.

During most of the planning I’ll primarily be posting over at the Baatar Hero website, but once we’re on the road I’ll likely cross post to both sites to keep my personal travel journal updated here as well.

Ulaan Baatar, here we come!
